Planning window furnishings for the first time can be quite daunting.
All too often we have clients that have put all this effort into their beautiful new home or renovation and not given consideration (or budget) to what is required for the final touch.
Let Frazerhurst Curtains and Blinds make it easy for you with a 4 step action plan.
1; Early in the planning;
Do your homework and research early in the planning, before you finalise the plans and window schedule.
Consider both the interior and the exterior for sun protection and privacy.
Make a mood board, folder in your phone or a Pinterest board with images of what you like.
Call into your local window furnishings specialist (that would be Frazerhurst curtains and blinds) to discuss what your options are.
2; At the drafting stage;
Make sure the window frames are deep enough to accommodate the treatments you are considering as some combinations need more space. For example, inside fit blinds combined with insect screens will need deeper sills.
Confirm the door handles and hinges that are going to be used. Oversized handles on sliders can interfere with blinds and curtains.
Consider how the windows and doors will open. Hinged doors and windows can limit your options for overhead awnings.
Sky light, high light and shaped windows look great but they can be very costly to cover. Research the options so you know what to expect.
Bring your plans, mood board, flooring and wall colours into our showroom so we can discuss your options and give you an estimate to help with your budgeting.
3; During the building;
Discuss with your builder where you need fixings for mounting tracks and brackets. If you want recessed or ceiling mounted track there needs to be fixings in the ceiling.
Arrange with your electrician where you may want motorisation, now or in the future. The light flooding in a high window may seem like a lovely idea until you live through a summer like this one.
4; 10 to 12 weeks out from hand over;
Now is the time to firm up your decision on your window furnishings. Give us a call and we will meet you on site to discuss the finer details and take all the relevant measurements.
Lead times can vary but generally 10 to 12 weeks is a good guide to complete supply, manufacture and installation of your chosen window furnishings.
