A new look for a new season

When the temperature drops there is a natural desire to want your home to look and feel cosy.

Our thermometer was reading 5.9 degrees last week. That is definitely a drop in temperature.

Coco from Unique Fabrics

On many continents it is considered acceptable to pack away the summer drapes and get out the winter ones.

-It’s time for the light and ethereal summer sheers to be moved over.

-It’s time for the textured, cosy winter drapes to be put up and embraced.

Boracay collection from Warwick

A list of textured fabrics that will have you feeling warm and cosy just by looking at them

–Fenwick from Rowe a new design that has a relaxed raw texture.

-Coco from Unique has a chunky soft weave, like a favourite sweater.

–Happiness from Zepel with a black mesh structure with soft threads woven through.

–Malaika from JAB is a stunning honeycomb weave that has a 3 dimension look that just makes you want to touch it.

–Arcadia from Warwick in a soft slightly open weave with a great range of earthy tones.

James Dunlop Canopy

The one item that will stay all year round would be the Hardware.

I cannot overstate the importance of getting good quality tracks and rods.  Investment now for long term satisfaction.

Quality tracks, rods and rails will outlive your drapery by at least two to one.

Each hardware brand has their own range of colours and designs but they all fall into the traditional range. Two profiles. three sizes and four colour groups, generally speaking. They don’t tend to change with trends but hold as classics.

Mokum Elemental with James Dunlop Silken Sheers

Still not convinced that you need a totally new set of drapes for winter?

The trick to making your existing curtains and drapes work for winter is to add a second track. Layering up your window furnishings for both physical and visual warmth.

Consider a luscious triple weave lining on a separate track to the rear, coloured to match or contrasting to make a statement.

Or

Move your existing curtains to the rear track and add a whimsical layer to the front in the form of a coloured voile or a textured mesh.

“We wanted motorised blinds because we were automating our new build. We were recommended Frazerhurst by friends. Our Home automation dealer advised Somfy motorisation was compatible with its software. Frazerhurst provided excellent service on installation. They were quick to respond our questions and worked well with the builders that ensured this was a smooth process. I have no hesitation in recommending the team at Frazerhurst.” Craig and Liz King
