Lambs, daffodils and early cheer. Spring is around the corner.
Spring and Autumn are the two months of the year that I like to change the interior design of my home to reflect the change of the season and on trend window furnishing ideas. There is such a lift in spirits when the signs of spring are in the air.
Spring is time to remove the warm and ‘huggy’ textures and colours of winter, making way for cool, calm and airy textures and tones.
The ultimate action for change is having a second set of curtains or drapes to suit the seasons. Not only is this good practice for the longevity of your window furnishing but it will give you an instant lift in your spirits as well.
Ideal spring and summer drapes are a light weight linen, cotton or a poly-cotton mix in cool tones. This years on trend colours to consider are sage, pistachio and olive greens.
This month I have asked a fellow Interior Designer for their thoughts on how to quickly, easily and cheaply give the house a spring lift.

- Cushions; Change your covers from dark colours and heavy textures to light colours in soft linen, cotton, or cool chintz. Play with plain on one side and a joyful print on the other.
- Throws; Swap out your heavy textured velvet or wool throws for light weight linen and cotton in soft tones.
- Table settings; Rattan placemats with a table runner made from scrunched up light weight fabric. Nestle tea lights in the folds and place greenery and branches threaded through.
- Have a go at making your own fringed table runner in a length of linen fabric. Pull a thread at about 30mm from the end and unravel the warp yarn to reveal a fringe.
- Candles; Put away your scented candles and get reed diffusers in spring scents.
- Flowers; Wild flowers in mini bottles. Carrot weed blooms with long stems look especially lovely.
